I think the reason the Republicans have been winning is
because, on
balance, their 'base' is more passionate.
The Republican base has expanded via activist churches
which,
effectively, has increased the size of the base and why the
Foley
incident is so scary for Rove strategy.
The Dems complain about poll issues and disenfranchisement,
which
there probably is some (maybe a lot), but I think the loss
can be
explained by religious activism. There were stories about
people
waiting in line for 4 hours in the rain to vote. The Dems
just don't
have that kind of dedication.
The only solution to that base growth on the Dem side is via
the youth
vote. And they NEVER turn out. If you want youth turnout,
start a
draft. Without that, they'll stay in the bar.
