You are right. If it were for money I would NOT be going
back into the
Army. As Loathe can attest, they don't offer the best pay. I
do it out
of duty, pride and love of my country, and I am willing to
tolerate
certain things to ensure that my country is safe, even if
some deem it
unconstitutional. I also consider myself a warrior and not a
Soldier of
Fortune. There are enough people out there to fill that
role, and
frankly that concept never interested me.
Like Jack Nicholson said in A Few Good Men, "I don't
want money and I
don't want medals".

I just want to serve and be the best soldier I can be.

just because it's Friday ...

(1.) Here's the thing: democracy must be defended or it
doesn't exist.
But, imo, "government" threatens democracy. It's
a fine line.

(2.) I'm guessing most, if not 99.9999% of people, don't
join the
military to defend me as a person. They join because it
does
something for them. Call me cynical or call me a true
capitalist, but
I don't believe in altruism.

(3.) We'd all serve for the right cause.

I think it's very difficult for Joe Blow to remember that
soldiers
serve for them. Today. Now.

But this service ends where Joe Blow's liberties begin.
Period.

Being the best, means giving up safety in exchange for
freedom.

Even for our beloved.

It is a extremely difficult choice to make, but the only
real one available.

When we trade our freedoms for security, we become
"them".

I want us to stay US.

I have to constantly remind myself, as I slip, like most
humans.

Life just ain't as cut and dry as people wish it were.
Myself included.

It's fun to think there's certain ways to think, but it just
ain't so.

Bring it on, I say. It takes all types, of that I'm sure
(ha ha).

Faith in the institutions we've built shouldn't be an
automatic "bad thing".

I do want to change your mind, but I don't want to change
your heart.

Generally, we could do with a bit of faith.

Warriors fighting for ideals (some great ones are embodied
in the
constitution ;), vs., um, nouns.

The nouns are dragging us doooooooowwn.

Heh. Bastian of clarity, I be.
