Yes definitely. Although Childhood's End is always been a
difficult book for me. You know he could have made billions
on satellite technology. He invented the basic concepts
behind communications satellites, but never tried to collect
a cent on it.

The world is a bit closer and narrower tonight.

Yeah, I think the patents that he, Heinlein, Asimov, Smith,
Leinster and
Simak could have filed would equal the entire GDP of the
United States.

Many people are unaware of Hedy Lamarr's contributions to
modern satellite
communications, her patented Frequency-hopped spread
spectrum invention, a
version of which is in use today in every modern military
communications
satellite (and commercial satellites, too).

Talk about beauty and brains:

I first saw her in Samson and Delilah when I was a child,
and I couldn't
take my eyes off her. Apparently, neither could the whole
of Europe.

Pictures don't do her justice. You have to see her on film
for the full
effect.
