'gel pretty much nailed it, other than the wrong lingo.
More from the
vah-dee-oh.

The mean streets of 'burque.

Naw, I wasn't a banger.

Just a white-boy who was down.

I think the first time I was shot at, I was around 10. In
those days,
just being in the wrong place at the wrong time was enough.

Ironically, I didn't actually catch any hot lead until after
I was out
of the scene, for the most part.

And the doctor kept telling me "you've got to change
your lifestyle"--
I had! Oh well.

Short story is that some kids I'd known since 1st grade
capped my ass
after stealing my little brother's birthday keg.

I could'a put out a hit, so to speak, but I had romantic
ideas about
stopping the violence, or some shit. Funnily, almost all
the docs
that cleaned me out/stitched me up, thought I shoulda let
'em kill the
motherfuckers.

Some people will tell you that I stood in the way of the
gunfire on
purpose-- bunch of kids behind me and whatnot-- I think it
was just
luck.

Heh. One bullet hit my leg, in the exact and only spot I
had
protection-- the change left over from a pack of smokes I'd
just
bought (I'd quit a week or two before, but decided I'd
really tie one
on, so what the hell). No bigger than a quarter (the change
was in a
stack, and they were *all* bent to hell, almost a dollar's
worth).
I watched my pant leg split, and knew I had been grazed
(actually
it hit the change, but I thought it had just grazed me)--
split second
later, my hand was smacked down, and I knew I'd caught one.
Hand's
still a little fucked up, maybe another surgery will help.
When I
have a break from coding, perhaps I'll check it out. (been
years
and years now).

Still not sure if the lack of retaliation was good... they
lived by
the sword, and most have now died by the sword...
but I wonder about the innocents they may have hurt along
the way.

The cops were fucking assholes.

Heh. I'm not in The Service service, but I do work for The
Man, doing
sorta service work. Trying to improve childcare and whatnot
here in
NM.

I have never intentionally killed another human being.

Hopefully never unintentionally, either. :]
