I've been to one Southern Baptist service, my ex-mother in
law's baptism,
and it might as well have been an ultra right wing political
rally.

The pastor ended the call for tithing with "Even if you
don't believe in
what we're doing, give"

It was all I could do to not run out screaming..

The pastor's gonna be really surprised when he winds up on a
perpetual spit
over an open flame.

I think his speech writers did a good job. It does not make
me like the
man any more or any less really. I just feel his speech
writers spun it
pretty well. In my years of attending Southern Baptist
services in Texas
and California, not once have my pastors interjected their
personal
political views into their sermons, and they never engaged
in any kind
of hate mongering the way that "Reverend" Wright
did. All they ever did
was preach the Word of God, which is what they are supposed
to do.

The way I see it, this is the beginning of a long line of
his dirty
laundry being aired. The man seems like a Boy Scout and to
be honest, if
a politician does not have some skeletons in the closet then
there is
something wrong. Everyone has secrets. At least Clinton and
McCain have
had years of this treatment by the press already, so now it
is Obama's turn.

Of course this is just my opinion.

Yes, sadly there are churches like this and it is
unfortunate. The
pulpit is not a place to talk politics, and if the
congregation allows
this then they are just as much at fault as the pastor. I
guess I have
been lucky in picking churches that only care about
spreading the Word.
And that remark that he made was not right either. If you
don't believe
in what they are doing, then why are you there? Why are you
supporting
the Church?
