I use TrueImage 8 and then workstation 9.1 to do that.

For XP Pro, the drives should be NTFS regardless. Many advantages and very few disadvantages. Will your MB handle the Samsung 200GB drive??

Did you change the jumpers on the two drives (40mb & 80mb ) to slave and master respectively and plug into the cable and IDE slot #1 on the MB accordingly?? If you have done all this and it still won't boot to the new drive then the cloned copy is not a bootable one.

For ALL drives, very few exceptions, I use Partition Magic or equivalent software to convert drives to NTFS, then clone with Acronis True Image. Acronis will make either an image or a clone.  I've made a few hundred, never a bad one. One can usually find a copy of Acronis True Image earlier version ( I have v.8 ) for just a few bucks. Perhaps $10-18 or so.

Subject: [CTS] Copying Drives

I have an WD 40GB drive and an 80GB drive.
I have WinXP Pro and both drives WERE FAT32 until I started trying to clone the 40GB over to the 80GB to make the 80GB my C: drive and install my Samsung 200GB.

I've tried the "tools" CD that comes with the Western Digital drives, but once I disconnect the 40GB drive, it wont boot the 80GB, even though the data structures, size, and files/folders count is all exactly the same when it's done.

I dont want to have to reload everything & set it back up COMPLETELY again, unless thats the only option.

I have an old copy of PowerQuest Drive Copy, but I dont think it'll work for these size of drives.

Do I need to have the 80GB now be NTFS, or can I leave it intact "as it is" or what?

Any ideas, including possible software solutions, are appreciated.

Thanks
