Bingo. Tech got this one - you're looking at a virus.
Also, as
Bharakrama said, you needs to do scans before you reboot (or
even
before using msconfig at all) since the virus may have
multiple startup
entries, and one might re-add the other entry. It's like
playing
whack-a-mole - if you don't whack them all at once, at least
one will
pop back up.
Also, something I should mention here since I now have the
chance to...
There's a very effective free virus scanner put out by
McAfee called
Stinger. Stinger isn't a full scanner, but instead it scans
for only
the most widespread and dangerous viruses. Stinger is
important
because if Stinger doesn't find your virus, it's more than
likely not a
really bad (or at least it's a really old) virus. It's
also a handy
tool for on-site repair people since it's only one single
EXE file.
Network admins love it too since it can be scripted using an
options
file and run on a regular schedule. Any way you slice it,
stinger is a
powerful "first aid" type program, and as I said,
it's free.
You can download Stinger from: http://vil.nai.com/vi
l/stinger/
And no, I didn't get paid for this. I happen to work at the
college
where the founder of McAfee graduated and originally
developed the
first versions of McAfee, which means I basically get McAfee
corporate
for free, but I'm not a McAfee fanboy. Personally I run
ClamWin on my
own systems - I am a fanboy of Open Source, but in hardware,
I have no
specific pick.
