How do you uninstall IE?

My Internet Explorer does not open at all (I get an error
message), but
my outlook express works fine. I tried to "repair"
the installation by
buying XP Professional (which I wanted anyway) and
installing it as an
upgrade. That did not fix IE. I tried running the
"repair installation"
on the XP Prof disk. That did not work either. Someone told
me that I
need to completely uninstall IE and then reinstall it from
the disk.
But I can't figure out how to uninstall IE. (I use Firefox
all the time
for web browsing, and actually prefer it, but I want IE to
work so I
can get system and security updates from Microsoft.)
Thanks.

I don't think there is a way to get rid of Internet
Explorer. People
have been trying for years. Which IE do you have? Try
updating to
version 7. Better yet, you can try Firefox 2.0. See if any
of them open
fine and let us know

I already have Firefox 2.0 and use it all the time for
browsing, etc.
It works great and I love it. My IE is whatever came with my
XP-Prof SP
2 2002 operating system--6.0, I think, and originally, it
worked fine.
I can't even get it to open to see the version #. The only
reason I
care if IE works is because without it I can't download any
Microsoft
updates for anything--XP, IE, Office, etc. I haven't even
been able to
install IE v7. When I try I get a message that says
"You must be
running IE v 5 or later." (This is while it's checking
to see what I
already have on my computer--it's like the installation
program can't
see the files already there.) When I attempt to open IE I
get the
following message in a message box:

"Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
Runtime Error!
Program: C:ProgramFilesInternetExploreriexplore.exe
This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it
in an
unusual way. Please contact the application's support team
for more
information."

Microsoft wants to charge me $$ (even just to answer an
email).

Thanks for your time.

Yes it's possible... No It really won't do any good. have
you tried
disabling 3rd party browser extentions? IE is an integrated
part of
XP... specificly, Windows Explorer.
Let me know...

may work out.....or fix the problem,
add/remove programs >>> add/remove windows
componentes.....uncheck
the IE...and later on, recheck the box......it may fix a
problem.
otherwise try installing avant browser, which i like,
computer
recognize it as IE...and microsoft will give you the
updates, I think.
lets know what happens

Dentist...

Just so you know, unchecking that actually only removes the
various
shortcuts to IE. If you want to check this, uncheck and
remove the
component, then go to "C:Program FilesInternet
Explorer" and run
iexplore.exe. Bam, internet explorer still installed.
Also, if you
look at the item description in the "Add/Remove
Components" window,
you'll notice it does indeed say it just removes shortcuts.

The same applies for Outlook Express, Windows Media Player,
and MSN
Messenger. The difference is that all of these components
can be
removed by third-party programs, but not Internet Explorer.
Without
IE, you don't have Windows, and Windows will bluescreen to
be sure you
know it.

I'm not fussing. I just wanted to let you (and everyone
else) know.
This is never a solution to an IE problem, with the one
exception being
when viruses or malware install fake shortcuts to IE, in
which case
this will make recreating those shortcuts (valid ones)
easier.

Have you tried disabling 3rd party browser extentions?
Thanks for the
clarification Tack as I have never actually looked into it
that beyond
knowing of the Add/Remove option.
