Hardware Help

I'm tryin to fix my friend PC and i'm having some
problems.I have a
brand new 40GB hard drive ,and im trying to install windows
XP on
it.When i turn on the PC it says CD-ROM not found. No matter
what i do
DOS setup dosent reconize the cd-rom.I checked the
connections and even
switch to differnt cd an dvd drives.If you guys know what
the hell is
going wrong,please help me out.THANX.

It sounds like there might be a problem with you BIOS
hardware... The
BIOS is what tells your system OS where to find the
Hardware, you
should see if you can upgrade that or just reset it with
some jumpers
on the motherboard.

Also, it could be an old DOS version that doesn't work
well.  Try to do
searches on getting a differend DOS version try different
versions of
PC DOS or MS DOS.  Try bootdisk.com it has a bunch of
listings that you
could make bootable floppys from.  Hope that helped a
little.

Hey,again.i went in the BIOS and the CD-ROM is the 1st in
the boot
order.I still get   the same CD-ROM not found.im still going
crazy
trying to figuer it out.If you guys have any other ideas
pleases let me
know.Thanx
i went to bootdick.com,but i cant boot from anything thing,
floppy or
CD-ROM
