Somthing like that (see below).

I'm seriously religious about keeping my machines updated, so that's not the
issue, and it's a new Dell machine, so the drivers are fine.
What happens is that NikonScan hangs if the scanner is turned on and warmed
up. Turning off the scanner unhangs NS, which then complains there's no
active scanner. I suspect it's not NS, but that I let XP install the
scanner, and it's got something inappropriate left in the firewire protocol
stack. Sigh. Hmm. Uninstall and reinstall firewire, maybe?
I've not used ViewScan in an age, maybe it's time to send Ed some money
again.
Actually, before spending any more money, I need to clean the mirror and
lens: the scans are more than somewhat fogged/hazy and lacking in contrast.
Essentially, they're completely unacceptable. Sigh. This thing is getting
seriously antique and I've pretty much gotten my money's worth out of it.
I'd sell a guitar and buy it if Nikon'd come out with a new (post-9000)
model. Sigh.
(I picked up a Mamiya 7 just before the 5D arrived, and for some reason,
I've been in the mood for shooting 6x7 slides recently.)
