Hi all!

I would like to hear your experiences in this area - maybe
we can write some
recommendations in the documentation based on them.

I recently hit a limit. A user wanted to copy/paste a word
document into an
xmltext field, and was unable to due to timeouts. If the
same document is
split in half (either half) it works fine, and fairly
quickly. Disabling the
online editor, and entering the combined xml output of the
two halves, gives
the same timeout. There is not much formatting in the
document. No images,
one or two simple tables, otherwise plain text.

Obviously the limit is based on many factors - amount of
formatting, number of
characters, server memory and load and so on - so it is
impossible to pin
down the exact limit. But it would be nice to write down
some reasonably
educated guesses.

The vital stats in my case:

Word document:
word file size: 400 kB
converted ezxml size: 190 kB
pages: 60
words: 26 000
characters: 170 000

eZ publish servers (2):
2-node cluster, each has
4 cpu-cores 3GHz
3 GB RAM
eZ publish 3.8

Database server (1):
Same configuration as above
MySQL 4.1
