Hi,
try to set ICONDIR= for example to /usr/share/pixmaps
you have to set it when compiling and when installing

Thanks for that idea.
What I did was find a line in the ~/.config/emelfm2/config file which sets the icon directory and changed that to /usr/share/pixmaps/emelfm2/ where the icons seem to be stored.
