The "floating bracket" is an old problem with
EndNote footnote styles. The solution is usually to put
forced separation around all the brackets, e.g. 
 |(|Date*|Year|)|

I don't know why this works, but it usually does. I
haven't tested it in more recent versions of EndNote.
