linking to pdf's in EndNote 9

Well I can't answer your question - but why would you ever
keep the
files you want to link to, on your desktop!?

When I try to link to pdf's in EndNote 9, and then click on
the link to
the pdf, I get an error

This URL (file:///C:/Documents and
Settings/MyUserName/Desktop/filename.pdf) could not be
launched.

The link appears in the Link to PDF field as

file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/MyUserName/Desktop/fil
ename.pdf

I added the link by opening a reference and right-clicking
in the Link
to PDF field and clicking the menu option Link to PDF.

I was seeing the same from right-clicking the item (without
opening the
reference) and dragging a pdf link to the item and then
opening the
library.

Is this error unique to how my computer is set up?
