Microsoft Word 2007 includes a new feature called the Word
Reference
Builder. The functions of the Word Reference Builder look
very similar
to the functionality of Endnote. Although it may not be
quite as
robust, it will almost certainly have a cleaner user
interface and be
more closely integrated with Word since it is part of Word
rather than
just being an add-in (e.g. it may make more robust use of
the right
mouse button than Endnote does). Anyway, I wonder if this
new function
will seriously cut into Endnotes market share.
Overtime, will this undermine Endnote or for Thompson to
substantially
improve Endnote? I hope the latter. I love Endnote but it
could
certainly use improvement (e.g. user interface, more robust
ability to
use right mouse button, more accurate output styles, etc.).
Here is a description of the new Word 2007 functionality:
"The Word Reference Builder helps manage and format
references in a
document automatically. It helps reformat bibliographies and
citations
according to one of many commonly used style guides,
including
Associated Press (AP), Modern Language Association (MLA),
Chicago Manual
of Style, International Formats and American Medical
Asociation (AMA).
(The current choices are: APA, Chicago, GB7714, GOST - Name
Sort, GOST -
Title Sort, ISO 690 - First Element and Date, ISO 690 -
Numerical
Reference, MLA, SIST02 and Turabian)"
