Thanks Sameer for the pointer to Google Scholar as a
workaround..our
library is linked to SFX from Google Scholar so we could do
this..
However I recommend that our Endnoters use Google Scholar
only as a last
resort. It only exports the bib citation and NOT the
Keywords and
abstracts (as a free resource, Google may not have
permission to do so).
I want Endnote libraries to be the best they can be and that
means
having multiple access/search points which the keywords and
abstracts
provide. These value addeds are included in the licensed
scholarly
databases we pay big bucks for and I want them exploited
into Endnote
from those resources first.
Also Google Scholar only exports one citation at a time and
the licensed
databases can "bundle" results of topical searches
in groups of 100 or
500 into Endnote...so it's more efficient as well.
Google Scholar is excellent for the bib citation for a
"just published"
article and I do recommend it as a quick grab for cite and
write.
I've tried to compare the Persistent link from our sfx
button results in
Web of Science and the same from Endnote for clues how I
might change
the Endnote Argument...but they are so different as to be
apples and
oranges to a non-tech like me.
I haven't noticed the lack of resources that you have from
SFX..we often
get multiple resources listed in the Endnote OpenURL (when
it worked)
and the SFX button in a database. I would say perhaps
30-40% percent
have only one source...and the remainder have two, sometimes
3 sources.
I admit that I've never compared the results though.
You've gone deeper into scrutinizing the persistent link for
the pubmed
ID..that never occurred to me.
At this point, I guess we'll start teaching Endnoters at UGA
to delete
the &isbn=ISBN from the Argument. At least then if
there is no URL to
follow back to the database, a la Eureka databases, the
Endnoter can use
Endnote's OpenURL link to search via SFX for fulltext..
But it is puzzling why the Argument repeats the numeric as
though there
were an ISBN field/number in Journal Article Reference Type
and causes
the logic to crash the search.
have a nice day,
