To expand a little what John said, in MARC21 the language
code is
usually entered in control field 008 (together with other
data,
including date), and field 041 is used if the three
characters allowed
in field 008 are not enough.

AFAICT, by default, ENX's MARC filter imports date from
field 008 as
Year and ignores other data. The problem here is that data
in this field
is defined positionally, rather than by subfields; and, the
User Guide,
which covers the subject in Filters > Importing MARC
Records, does not
provide any information on how to change the way control
fields are
imported. I guess that's because much of the complexity of
the MARC
filters is hidden from the user. Maybe someone else can
explain how it
works...
