David, thanks for trying it out to, but I still don't know
how to do
this: you would have to edit the output style and change the
multiple
citations separator.
I am working on my dissertation and have many multiple
authors. Does
anyone have an easier way to fix the following? Here is the
description
again:
I have Endnote 8 and am not able to delete the same author
name when it
is listed twice. For example, I have (Knowles, 1950, 1970)
and want to
only say Knowles (1950, 1970). But when I eliminate the
author for one
year by editing the reference, it won't let me eliminate the
same author
for the second year. Instead it shows:
(1950; Knowles, 1970). How can I eliminate the same author
name for both
years so it comes out as (1950, 1970)? This also happens
when I have
the same author for three years. I would appreciate
suggestions.

It's possible - almost. If I insert citations to Mazzocco
1997 and
Mazzocco 1999 at the same time I get
{Mazzocco, 1997 #802; Mazzocco, 1999 #804}
which becomes
(Mazzocco, 1997, 1999).
If I edit that to exclude author I get
(1997; Mazzocco, 1999)
as you said. If I unformat that and remove the author name
leaving
{, 1997 #802; , 1999 #804}
that becomes
(1997; 1999).
The same thing happens if I just remove both authors from
the original
above. I suspect that to get
(1997, 1999)
you would have to edit the output style and change the
multiple
citations separator but I have not tried that.
