Karen,

I can't recall if this works in 8; it certainly works in 9.

Edit your output style (Edit / Output Style / Edit
<Chosen Style>).
On the left, go to Citations / Author Name.
Check the boxes for "Omit repeated author", and
"separate these
citations with"; replace whatever's in the box with a
comma.

You obviously know how to remove the author; you do have to
do it from
both citations, and you can do this either in the edit
citation box
(going down the list on the Left) or by unformatting the
references.

If the author names remain after all this, then EN is not
recognizing
the authors as identical. Check the spelling, initials, and
first names
are all the same.

Best wishes,
M

Subject: Re: eliminating same author

I have Endnote 8 and am not able to delete the same author
name when it
is listed twice. For example, I have (Knowles, 1950, 1970)
and want to
only say Knowles (1950, 1970). But when I eliminate the
author for one
year by editing the reference, it won't let me eliminate the
same author
for the second year. Instead it shows:
1950; Knowles, 1970). How can I eliminate the same author
name for both
years so it comes out as (1950, 1970)? This also happens
when I have
the same author for three years. I would appreciate
suggestions.
