This happens in a lot of computer software, especially with
"/"s.
My completely untested suggestion, since I have on EN6, is
to try three
periods. In other software if you need a // you sometimes
need to put in
///.
What typically happens, and hopefully happens in your case,
is the first
double period is caught by the parser and puts in a single,
then the
next one gets put in as an adjacent one and the result is a
double
period string.

If you look at the "Bibliographic Styles" chapter
of the manual, in the
section "EndNote Cleans Up" (p. 417 in the Windows
edition of the
EndNote X manual), you will see that EndNote automatically
changes a
double period into a single period when it formats
references. I don't
know of any workaround for this.
