Hello,
The field for first page only can be very useful if you are
using the
possibility to have openURL links. The system we use cannot
use the
range of pages but entirely loose the page number info. This
will not
lead the user to the single article.
Kind regards,
Christina

Subject: Start Page vs Pages
One of our users has just pointed out that EndNote X and XI
journal
article reference types have an extra field "Start
Page" whereas v. 9
only had "Pages" So far as I can see, this would
be unlikely to be used
because the bibliography would usually reference the full
range of pages
for the article. Does anyone know why this change was
introduced? It was
confusing the user concerned as he had filled in the number
of pages in
the "Pages" field and was expecting that this
would somehow be used in
conjunction with the start page to generate the required
page range in
the output.
i.e.
Pages: 12
Start page: 31
He was expecting to get pp. 31-43 and, of course, got pp.
12.
I believe that there are some styles which really do require
only the
starting page to be given in the full printed reference, so
maybe this
is a user education issue.
