I posted the message below on 19 Feb but no-one has
suggested any
answers. Is anyone able to help with my 2 questions please?

I am working on the output style for the journal Chemistry -
a European
journal from Wiley.

I have edited the style to get groupings of references so
that in the
bibliography 1] has several references as does 2] and so on.
The style
however requires that each individual item in the group
appears as a) b)
etc

The example on the Wiley web pages is shown below:
