I would have thought it was more in the power of journal
editors. If
editors in each discipline were to pick one of the widely
used standards
and stick to it, the problem would be solved. It shouldn't
cost much in
independence. Here are examples of the accounting styles on
my EndNote
X.0.2 (I picked on the accountants because they are
alphabetically
first). The styles differ only in nitpicking detail from APA
5th.
