Integration with the backup tool

Hi there,

It would be nice if it would be possible to integrate with
the backup
software of the Nokia.

That way, in case an upgrade of the device is a necessity,
the user
wouldn't have to run all the backup softwares of all the
ISV's that
created softwares for his mobility solution. In stead, using
just one
tool would suffice: The Nokia tool. As all the ISV's had a
standard to
implement backups of the application state.

It would also be 'nice' to some day have ABI and perhaps API
stability.
And once that (ABI stability) is set in place, the flasher
shouldn't
overwrite custom applications (but should perhaps warn about
the fact
that the upgrade might break those).

I'm seeing the Nokia 770 as a potential candidate for
development of
custom softwares. And since a lot of the device is free
software,
therefore source included, I see it as a usable platform
that is highly
customizable.

If I where one of the Nokia decision makers, I'd
"use" that fact. But
you guys are free to go in any direction you like. Just like
how
developers and decision makers at ISV's (like my employer)
are free to
pick other devices for such applications .

see http://maemo.org/platform/docs/tutorials/Maem
o_tutorial.html#backup .

I have not tested this but if it doesn't work it is a bug...

Applications can add additional directories and files to a
backup by
putting a configuration file to
/etc/osso-backup/applications/. However
we had a bug in backup in our first release. (see
https:
//maemo.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=306) This makes it
harder for
apps installed by the app installer to tell the new
locations for the
backup.
