Was the rpm you grabbed it from also 2.0b2? You're best bet
is to run 
gaim from a terminal with the -d option to dump debug output
(maybe pipe 
it to a file, i.e. gaim -d > debug.log). In the debug
output, you should 
see a line for each plugin gaim probes, followed by an error
message if 
it doesn't like what it sees.

If you need further help, post your debug output to the
list.
