Question about the registry constantly check the provider.

My guess is that the registry is NOT responsible for
checking if the 
"end points" are active. It would be up to your
application to check 
their end-points (i.e. the services) to see if they are
active - i.e. 
after your application has obtained the service's end-point,
your 
application would have to monitor that end-point to see if
it is active, 
however this could per perceived as spamming by the server
and it not 
good practice to keep pinging them "just to
check". You application 
should handle the situation of when the end-point is down,
i.e. what is 
the backup plan, etc.

These end-points are web servers and there could be many of
them in the 
registry so you shouldn't expect the registry to do
maintenance check on 
its registered services.

Alan is right.  UDDI registry is not designed to monitor
service
availability.  Some commercial products such as AmberPoint
provide
service monitoring functions as part of the SOA runtime
governance
solution.  But such products are usually difficult to use
and configure.


If you just want to check if your computer is on or not,
it's better to
use SNMP-based monitoring tools (e.g. HP openview, but I am
sure there
are open-source tools as well).  They are designed to
monitor the
availability of your network and hardware systems.
