Hi

Sorry, the utf-8 conversion is assumed by the classes. 
There's no general
switch to enable or disable it.  We do provide sources at
openldap.com if
you want to make your own modifications.  The readme at

http://forgeftp.novell.com/jldap/README.html#bnifr23
states:

4.0 LDAPv2 and LDAPv3 Support
This version of the LDAP Classes for Java supports mainly
LDAPv3. Since the
consensus in the LDAP community is to encourage everyone to
update to
LDAPv3, Novell has not made a commitment to ensure that
these libraries
support LDAPv2 servers.
