Greg Tananbaum joins SPARC Consulting Group
Coalition expands service to equip digital initiatives with

Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition) is expanding
the=20
SPARC Consulting Group with the addition of well-known
advisor=20
and commentator Greg Tananbaum.
Tananbaum is best known for his leadership as recent
President of=20
The Berkeley Electronic Press, though also for writing a
regular=20
column on emerging developments in scholarly communication
for=20
Against the Grain and for his work as past Director of
Product=20
Marketing for EndNote. He holds a Master's Degree from the
bond=20
School of Economics and a B.A. from Yale University.
Since=20
leaving The Berkeley Electronic Press in 2006, Tananbaum
has=20
offered a range of consulting services at the intersection
of=20
technology, content, and academia.
The SPARC Consulting Group (SCG) was formed in 2002 to
provide=20
business, financial, and strategic consulting services
to=20
universities and university presses, learned societies, and
other=20
academic and nonprofit organizations. It supports the=20
development, launch, and operation of scholarly
communications=20
projects by helping make them more competitive,

self-sufficient, and better equipped to serve scholars and

SCG consultants Raym Crow and Howard Goldstein are known

authoring Open Society Institute-sponsored business

guides on launching or converting to open access journals,

SPARC Position Paper" and "Gaining Independence: A
Manual for=20
Launching a Nonprofit Publishing Venture." SPARC

* Policy analysis;

The SCG provides access to qualified consultants acting
