Reminder: Register for the SCOAP
<http://scoap3
.org/focalmeeting.html> 3 US Focal Meeting!

When: February 29th, 2008, 9 am - 4 pm
Where: University of California at Berkeley
(Berkeley, CA)

The SCOAP3 <http://scoap3.org/ab
out.html> initiative (Sponsoring
Consortium for Open Access Publishing in Particle Physics),
with
widespread support from the scientific community
<http://scoap3.or
g/community.html>, is steadily gaining momentum:
in the last few months, many European countries
<http://scoap3.
org/whoisscoap3.html> have expressed their
interest in joining the consortium, and more are expected to

follow suit in the coming months.

However, without broad consensus and involvement from the
leading
US libraries and library consortia, SCOAP3 cannot happen.
Please
join fellow representatives from over 40 U.S. libraries and
U.S.
library consortia
<ht
tp://scoap3.org/focalmeeting.html#institutes> at the
US SCOAP3
focal meeting at the University of California at Berkeley on

February 29 to learn more about this unique initiative. The
goal
of this event is to explain the SCOAP3 objectives and
implementation in detail and bring together the collective
insight and experience of the U.S. library community to
determine
how a re-direction of subscriptions to high energy physics
journals toward SCOAP3 might be achieved in the U.S.

Attendees are encouraged to read the full report describing
the SCOAP3
initiative at <ht
