SPARC ANNOUNCES NOVEMBER DIGITAL REPOSITORIES MEETING
Organizers put out call for presentation proposals

Washington, DC =AD April 7, 2008 =AD SPARC, in partnership
with SPARC=20
Europe and SPARC Japan/National Institute of
Informatics,=20
announces the SPARC Digital Repositories Meeting 2008, to be
held=20
November 17-18, 2008 at the Renaissance Harborplace Hotel
in=20
Baltimore, Maryland.

Coming on the heels of two groundbreaking developments - a
recent=20
vote by Harvard=B9s Faculty of Arts and Sciences enabling
the=20
university to offer access to their articles in an
institutional=20
repository and implementation of a new National Institutes
of=20
Health public access policy - the meeting will enable=20
stakeholders to explore next steps for the burgeoning
open=20
archiving movement.

Librarians, researchers, funders, administrators,
government=20
officials, publishers, and technologists from around the
world=20
will share their experiences and best practices in building
and=20
supporting institutional and disciplinary digital
repositories.=20
The focus will be on effective engagement with scholars
and=20
scientists to expand the sharing of research outputs via
open=20
repositories.

The program, developed by a diverse and expert program
committee,=20
will delve into four key areas: The Policy Environment,
New=20
Horizons, Campus Publishing Strategies, and Value-Added
Services.=20
These tracks will be supplemented with an Innovation Fair,
where=20
new technologies, strategies, and approaches will be
highlighted,=20
and a Practicum on marketing and advocacy.

The program committee invites proposals for presentations at
