A new seminar from the AAP/PSP Journals Committee:

Making the Cut:
How Librarians Apply Metrics and Other Factors in Evaluating
their Journals
Collections
Thursday, May 22nd, 2008
12:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Association of American Publishers
71 Fifth Avenue (between 14th & 15th Streets)
New York, NY

Librarians need to prioritize when making title selections.
There=20
are many tools and methods, as we know; but which are the
most=20
effective in reaching librarians and finally our readers?
Join=20
us and hear firsthand from several librarians on the=20
measurements, the metrics, and to what extent these various
tools=20
are used.

If you want the answers to the following questions and
issues=20
then this seminar is for you:

-Who makes the selection, who is involved in the process and
to what
  extent?
-Is cost the determining factor?
-How heavily do librarians rely on ISI=E2=80=99s impact
factors?
-How heavily do librarians rely on COUNTER statistics?
-To what extent is aggregated online hosting a determining
factor?
-To what extent does bundling and consortia packaging affect
decisions?
-Do processes vary based on discipline?
-Are there other determining factors the publisher should
think about?

This will be an interactive session, so bring your questions
for the
panelists.
