I have been using Windows Media player 10 (XP) to listen to lectures and broadcasts (podcasts) for a year or so. Playback at 2X speed is almost essential for this slow paced material.
Up until a month or so ago, I could set the speed to 2X and play through any number of files, even when encoded at different bit rates, without having the speed setting change.
Then, usually when there is a change of originator or bitrate, the speed started resetting to 1X. I tried to install WMP11 but don't have the right version of XP so I installed WMP9, but with the same problem.
I have a laptop computer, XP with WMP10, which still plays through a playlist at the speed intentionally set. That one has not been connected to the Internet since before the change occurred on my main computer.
Does anyone know what is going on? Has there been a change in WMP functionality, possibly in an automatic update? How can I lock WMP into the selected play speed?
