I know of other chats that are based off of phpmychat that do not have this problem, which leads me to believe that it is doable. What risks and/or effects does deleting the javascript function have on the chat?

Loathe as I am to disagree with Ciprian - I have discovered a few
workarounds of sorts. This is not something I recommend due to
previously mentioned security issues in the FAQ, and it causes a few
other annoyances. Workarounds listed in order of computer skill required:
A) disable cookies in your browser. This causes the popup "must have
cookies enabled...", however, you can hit okay and have it continue.
B) Delete the javascript function in the chat that creates the cookie. I
believe it's in the loader.php files.

And yes, the reason I do this is so that I can have my admin hat on in
one room while chattering with my friends in another room.

If you just want to play around and pretend you are more than one peson, the only way you can do it is to login with different browsers!!! Like one user using IE and separately, in FIREFOX login with a second name. For the third one, you should use NETSCAPE. For the forth one OPERA. and so on (there are hundreds of browsers available, so...)
