You can change just the gear in under 5 minutes. Remove the fuser,
the side cover and the formaater and pan. The there's a shole that
gives access to the screw holding the shaft for the gear in place.
Remove the screw, push the shaft back. pull the old gear out and
reverse to re-assemble.
Note, the replacement swing arm assy has a cut out to allow the gear
to drop lower than the original arm allows, so replacing just the
gear is not ideal, although I've done a couple this way and haven;t
had any recurring problems.
