Interesting two of you are want this feature.
Its not a feature that I personally would use.

Is there any other action the update that you
would usefully issue to a group of projects?

It could be implemented as a "Update All
Projects..."
command that put up a dialog that you can select
which projects to update.

Error handling would have to be carefully designed
to make sure that the user sees the failures in
amongst the update output.
