settings sound right, but you need a null modem (cable or
adaptor) to
connect to a terminal.

that doesn't sound right (or even possible) if you have the
correct jumpers.

i'm installing 4.1 right now on an E450 tonight. i use a
DEC vt-420
terminal and a single connector. note that you can use an
ordinary
serial connector and don't need the Y connector to get to
serial port A
which is normally the console port. also you only need
pins 2, 3, and
7 on the 25-pin connector.
i always have one of the simple LED boxes with several green
and red LEDs
to confirm that the two data leads (pins 2 and 3) are both
green. there
is no difference on Sun boxes so if your serial setup works
on one Sun
box like your U60 it's ok for the plugging into the a/b
port.
note that the serial port is on a different line than the
other ports to
the right on the E450. there is another port with the same
connector in
line with the other ports along the left edge, but it's the
parallel port
on the E450.
not trying to say stupid things that you likely have done
right already,
but just covering every detail that comes to mind. my
install just
finished!
so i took the side of the box off and saw that the jumpers
are set to
the right positions (away from the . screened on the system
board) and
that works with an RS-232 terminal ok.
