Thanks Jonathan.  I wasn't planning to boot from the USB
device, but I 
appreciate the mention.

The slow speed will be annoying, but possibly not a problem
for data 
transfers.  Finding an external drive that uses USB1 instead
- hm. Back to 
square 1.

USB2 drives should work fine, just at USB1 speeds.
If you had a PCI slot you could buy a cheap USB2
controller,
but I don't think the V100 has one.

USB2 disk drives usually work OK in USB1 mode. But speed
will be
limited to 12Mb (normal transfer speed is around what 10Mb
Ethernet
provides).

I just went through http://openb
sd.org/sparc64.html#hardware and
couldn't find any PCI-USB2 ( EHCI(4) ) adapters. I do not
even know if
any PCI slots are available in a V100, so that may not help
you further
anyway...
