Eclipse 3.3.1 users -- beware of problems

A lot of Eclipse 3.3.1 users are experiencing problems (not
just
Subclipse users). It turns out most of them can probably be
traced to
a regression in the 3.3.1 launcher that causes it to not set
the
PermGenSpace setting on the Sun JVM. See this Bugzilla:

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=203325

And this blog post:

-eclipse-on-linux-and.html

You can fix the problem yourself by following the
instructions in
Alex's blog post. Be sure you understand how to edit the
eclipse.ini
if you have never done it. Each line has to be on its own
line. No
spaces on any line.

The other thing I noticed about the 3.3.1 on OS X is the presence of another eclipse.ini file in the root Eclipse directory (the other one is in the package contents of Eclipse.app). Does anyone know what the deal with this is? Does one override the other? This might explain another weird problem I was having with Eclipse 3.3.1 which was that sometimes -- all of the sudden -- the fonts would be HUGE. One of the Eclipse.ini files has:

-Dorg.eclipse.swt.internal.carbon.smallFonts

and other other does not.

I only have the file in the app bundle.

Yes, that setting controls the fonts and makes them smaller.
 It is in
the default eclipse.ini on OSX.

All recent installs of eclipse I've done have both of these
files.

As far as I can tell the one in the app bundle is used if
you run
eclipse by clicking on the Eclipse.app in the finder.
The one in the eclipse install folder is used if you run
eclipse from
the commandline.

Also, I'd guess that if eclipse restarts itself then the
eclipse.ini in
the eclipse install folder is used.
