The Heart Lock-In is a scientifically validated technique based on 14 years
of research. It is designed to help you increase the power of your heart and
rebalance your emotions. The longer you are able to hold your attention in
the heart, the more balanced you will feel. But depending on your
relationship to recent events, some feelings can take longer to shift. So
don't expect to get rid of all of the stress overnight-no tool is going to
do that for you.
Under normal circumstances, most people find that practicing the Heart
Lock-In technique in a quiet place for five minutes or more a couple of
times a day helps to accumulate energy and recharge their emotional system.
This cushions the impact of day-to-day stress and anxiety. Sending out heart
or caring and compassionate feelings to those affected by the hurricane can
help balance your own energies as well as help others.
The Steps
1. Shift your attention to the area of your heart and breathe slowly and
deeply.
Heart Breathing helps draw the energy out of the head, where negative
thoughts and feelings are amplified. Remember, breathe slow and deeply in a
casual way. Imagine the air entering and leaving through the center of your
chest and heart area.
2. Activate and sustain a genuine feeling of appreciation or care for
someone or something in your life.
3. Send these feelings of care toward yourself and others.-This benefits
them and especially helps recharge and balance your own system.
When you catch your mind wandering during a Heart Lock-In, no big deal,
simply refocus your attention on the heart area and reconnect with feelings
of care or appreciation
When you sustain coherence for 5 minutes or more it makes the state more
familiar and accessible to you when you need it to meet challenges of
stress. With practice, the coherent state becomes your new reference point,
making the experience more automatic.
Key Points
One of the most effective times to practice is first thing in the morning to
set the tone for the day. It helps you save energy in the midst of typical
reoccurring stressors, such as: commutes, meetings, and challenging
interactions with parents, students and staff.
Doing a short midday Lock-In is very effective in offsetting the afternoon
drag and re-energizing the emotional system. When your emotions are spent,
it causes "afternoon slump". Afternoon slump results in less focus, low
motivation and a fading energetic drive.
Numerous studies have also shown that practicing the Heart Lock-In before
going to sleep promotes a more restful sleep and is especially helpful with
insomnia. In fact, many have eliminated their insomnia with this process.

Catherine
