shared hosting

i heaved seen many websites that now is oferring
"shared hosting ruby
on rails",  can somebody can explain me what they heave
on their
server so the hosting is also has ssh so the clients can
deploy their
project

i think that they are using chroot jail, so the members can
just login
with a low permission, so the members can;t restart or to
damage the
server

any idea?

Go for a VPS where you can control your own destiny.  Most
of the
shared hosting plans require you to lobby the other folks
using your
shared server to approve any upgrades, gems, etc.  IMO,
that's too
much power over your solution to hand over to someone else
(who might
even be competing with you!!!).
