You can implement an SSL VPN solution that provides endpoint
scanning to
verify anti-virus software is installed, at a certain level,
etc. You can
also do other things with it as well, but what you're
looking for is called
endpoint scanning.
The Citrix Access Gateway does this very well. I believe F5
has a product
that will do it, and Microsoft's ISA server will do this as
well. I believe
all three have a "quarantine" function that
allows you to give them access
to only a portion of the network if they do not meet the
requirements. Let's
say they do not have the proper signature level on their AV
software, they
can get into the network, but only to a potion of the
network that has the
updates that they need to install. Then they can connect to
the rest of the
network.

Subject: [windows2000] vpn access and home PCs
Do any of you have users that access your network via VPN
from their
home PCs.
If so what security steps do you take to ensure Virus scan,
MS patches
etc are up to date?
Is there a product that you like for analyzing desktop
security?
Thanks,
Joanne
