While Adobe's Acrobat Reader is a bit of a PITA, the amount
of resources
that it uses (and the time it takes to launch) can be
reduced
drastically by removing plugins that are not needed. I don't
have the
site in front of me now, but about a year ago, I configured
and deployed
an installation of Acrobat Reader enterprise-wide that had
most of the
plugins missing. "Nobody" used them, they were
easy to re-enable for
anyone that might need any of them, and with them gone, it
launched
virtually instantly.
YMMV...

I'll look into it.
Is the plugin-disable-thingie documented on the Adobe-site
then?
