Win9x (and most of NT4) has been
pretty dead over here for the last six to seven years. The cost to fix
the problems on win9x greatly exceeds the cost to just reformat and install a
newer OS (if hardware supports it).
I'd ignore win9x altogether, unless is
mission critical in some way.
I've just pointed a 98 machine at windows update
and it seems that MS06-013 breaks activeX downloads completely on this
box.
Do a clean install apply IE 6 SP1 and patch then
point it at a website that uses macromedia flash. It'll ask to install but never
completes.
Only solution I've come across that I know works is
to remove MS06-013, reboot, run a repair on the browser, reboot and then you can
get activex downloads to work.
I know that this is really low priority as support
for 98 stops in a few weeks but has anyone got to the bottom of this
issue ?
Thanks
Davey
